Gifts for Fathers?

I'm needing your input on things you have bought men - or your dads - that they have really liked. My dad was here this week (as was mom) and he completely re-did the girls' bedroom and our half-bath downstairs. The painting was a tremendous amount of work, and he did it as a labor of love.

I'm awful at expressing gratitude to family members - especially my rather "distant" dad. But I love him lots and lots.

I want to send a letter and a gift, but I'm having a tough time thinking of a good gift. Even at Christmas and his birthday, I'm always stuck. He's "wealthy" and gets himself pretty much whatever he wants. He's also kinda country and redneck and a hunter, so "luxury" changes definition.

Any ideas?

That is a tough one-since he has the means to buy what he wants. I do have family members like that also and it makes it hard. Maybe go with something he would not do for himself--gift certificate to somehwere that he would not have even thought of.--Or something special and unique with the girls pictures or something....something made? Something you just can't buy everyday in a store? Good luck-I'm sure you find thing perfect gift.

Well, once I bought my husband a gun for Father's Day, and it was his favorite gift ever. From your description of your dad, he would probably like that, however, would that jeopardize your adoption if you went out and bought a gun??

Okay, I've made photo collages and had them framed for family members (Photoshop makes this easy) and given them as gifts.

I've also made hardbound photo books (off of Snapfish) of our son and given that as a gift.

Anything personalized with pictures of the grandkids seems to go over really well with our parents!

Since your mom and dad were both there for the weekend to help you out, what about a gift certificate for a weekend away? Is there a town not too far out that they enjoy? You could always get a certificate for a hotel and dinner at a nearby restaurant.

I know how you feel, my dad is the hardest person to shop for too. Just a thought.

Put the girls in camo outfits and have their picture made. Find a rednecky or camping/fishing frame and I bet he will love it!

Make him the biggest, juiciest steak you can find - all the works too - potatoes, veggies, etc.

Definitly a portrait of the girls with a theme your father would like. It's something he can't go out and get himself!
